Working with LGBT Youth

The Equity Project provides a valuable resource for those working with lesbian, gay, bisexual, and trangender (LGBT) youth in the juvenile courts with the goal of effective assistance of counsel, protection from harassment and harm, individualized disposition plans, and fair and respectful treatment.  The Equity Project is a partnership of Legal Services for Children, the National Center for Lesbian Rights, and the National Juvenile Defender Center.

There are a wealth of Equity Project resources, including: 10 Tips: Working with LGBTQ (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Questioning) Youth and LGBT Youth in Court: Practice Tips for Juvenile Defenders.  Additional resources include the American Bar Association Center on Children and the Law, Opening the Door Project.

In Indiana, resources can be found at the Indiana Youth Group, including dealing with suicide and depression issues, and a list of specialized therapists in the Indianapolis.
