Updating a previous post about the Commission on Autism, it was noted: “[d]uring a discussion with the executive director of the Autism Society of Indiana, it was revealed that there are no documented individuals with ASD incarcerated in the Indiana Department of Correction (DOC).”
This statement appears to be incorrect. In reviewing the minutes from the August 6, 2013, meeting of the Indiana Commission on Developmental Disabilities, representatives from the Indiana Department of Correction presented a Powerpoint slide noting that there are:
- 19 individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder at the DOC — 5 juveniles and 14 adults
- 156 individuals with intellectual disabilities — 6 juveniles and 150 adults.
