On March 19, 2014, beginning at 8:30 a.m., the Sixth Annual Elkhart Community Summit on Children will focus on bettering the lives of children. “Bringing people together to solve problems has proven successful in the past. Our children deserve our best efforts,” said Deborah Domine, Elkhart County Juvenile Magistrate and organizer of the event. Speakers will include: Justice Loretta Rush, Indiana Supreme Court and Chair of the Indiana Children’s Commission; Judge Mary Beth Bonaventura, Indiana Department of Child Services Director; Theresa (Gina) Castaneda, Probation Officer and Aztecas Soccer program creator, Santa Cruz, CA; State Representative Rebecca Kubacki, Chair of the Indiana House Committee on Family, Children and Human Affairs; and Alex, a 17-year-old success story. The event will be held at the Maple City Chapel, 2015 Lincolnway East in Goshen, Indiana.
Youth care workers, educators, youth care providers, participants in the juvenile justice system, case managers, law enforcement professionals and any others involved in bettering the health and welfare of children are encouraged to attend. Continuing Education Credits are available for lawyers, social workers and educators. The Summit is being funded through an Indiana Supreme Court Improvement Grant.
