Please indulge this blogger in a moment of glee! Today, I am receiving the Gault Award from the Indiana Public Defender Council at the Annual Update seminar, for which I am very grateful. I have been nominated twice before and join an amazing list of friends and colleagues who have worked to help kids and families across Indiana in juvenile court and to drive change in the way that our juvenile courts operate.
I am constantly amazed by the level of dedication of so many juvenile defenders across the state and I am humbled to have been nominated with the following defense attorneys:
- Kathleen Evans from Porter County, who will be retiring after thirty years of dedicated service
- Michelle Bazin-Johnson from LaPorte County
- Carl Markovich and Tim Hixson from Hamilton County
- Sonny Reisz from Vanderburgh County
A special thanks to Amy Karozos (a past winner) for the nomination and to Jodie English, JauNae Hanger, Kim Tandy, and Judge Darrin Dolehanty for taking the time out of your schedules to write the letters of support.
The Gault Award is to recognize a lawyer who has demonstrated an outstanding degree of commitment, competency, and professionalism in representing juvenile clients. The award is named after the In re Gault case that established the right to counsel in juvenile delinquency cases.
